Adoption Books

A few months ago, I attended an adoption event where they had several ideas to help spread the word that we were adopting. One family had made a book about themselves. I THOUGHT it looked like an easy idea. I THOUGHT wrong! But, I will add that it was fun and very fulfilling. I just hope it helps.

I went online and found a few websites that had free digital scrap booking downloads (they are listed in the bottom of my right sidebar, check them out). Because I am not that tech savvy I designed these in Microsoft Word (probably my first and biggest mistake). The files were so huge that I couldn't email them. Since I don't have a printer at home, I had to do something. So I copied them to a disk and took it to work. Then I saw a few things I wanted to change so I did that. Then I couldn't get them back on another disk (I don't think my computer can burn CD's at work). I ended up going to work early one morning and printing them there.

Then I had to trim off ALL the white edges. Because the picture pages are on just regular paper I wanted to mount them on card stock to make it sturdier. Do you know how hard it is to find just brown card stock in our little area? Five stores later I had what I needed. I also bought 4 rolls of double sided tape THINKING THAT WOULD BE PLENTY to mount the papers on. I spent more on tape than I did to have the books bound. I think my final tape roll count as 22-1/2 rolls!

I only made a dozen books and I've already handed out two. I plan to send a few around to hospitals and such with our pass along cards. I would do this project again, but at least I now know just how big a project it is.
