Cake Decorating Class 2: Week 1

Last night we started our second cake decorating class. We will continue to learn borders and flowers.

First we learned to do sweet peas. This blue one is the one the teacher did to show me what to do.
The one on the left was one of my best ones. Not sure what happened on the other one.
The center one was another one of my favorites.
Then we learned rose buds. I had a hard time with them and my teacher had to help me make several. These are a few we made together.
I finally figured out I wasn't holding my hand quite right and finally made a few good ones.
For borders we learned Rosettes and the Reverse Shell. I never felt like I did well with the shell border, so I only did two. They are on the very bottom left corner of my complete board.

Next week we are going to start learning roses. I can't wait!

Because I like to post LOTS of kitten pictures

Lewis continues to earn his name as the explorer. Now that he can get on the piano, I think its time to admit there is NO place the kittens can't get to.

The kittens move a lot while napping. These were all taken during the same nap.
It seems they are never sure just what is the most comfortable position in a nap. :)

They are also discovering the joy of sunbeams.

Lewis is playing with death here. I can't believe Pyro let him touch her let alone sleep by her.
Honey joined in on the dangerous nap. A few minutes later Buddy showed up, that is when Pyro got mad and left.

They keep knocking the stuff on my shelf down. Here is Lewis taking a nap in the bottom of my cake decorating stand.

I don't have a picture, but they can now get up to the 3rd shelf of the book shelf. They've tried to get to the fourth, but I keep a lot of stuff on the higher shelves, so mostly they manage to pull a lot of the stuff off and then fall off themselves.
This picture of Zipper just cracks me up.

Close to My Heart August Pages

Our September group is this week and I've still never posted the pages from last month!

But first, I have to share this new technique I learned because it is so cool! I read an article on the Internet last week that suggest uses for common household things. The two things I remember both have to do with dental floss. 1) Use a non flavored dental floss to slice cheesecake. I will be sure to try that next time I make a cheesecake! 2) Use dental floss to remove photos and other things from scrapbook pages.

I have been going to a scrapbook group for about 3 years now. Each month we create a few pages and the idea is to go home and add pictures to it. I have NEVER done that. I also have a bad habit of not finishing the pages that night and promising myself I'll finish them later. So today I decided to finish up a few of those pages. This page was supposed to have ribbon on it, but they ran out that night. It goes under the quote. I started to peal it off with my finger and the page started to tear. That is when I remembered the dental floss! It worked beautifully! I ended up using it on several different things I needed lifted to put ribbon and other things on. I have the final project posted below.

These were our August pages. They were so much fun. I never remember what the techniques are called, but I love how we did the letters and the leaves to the flowers. You stamp the leaf on the ink pad and then you stamp that stamp on top of another stamp. Doing this lifts some of the ink off and then you stamp it on the paper to get a cool texture effect.

Here is a few of the older pages I have. Some of them are designed my Janel who runs the group I go to now. Some of the pages are from the last group I belonged too, but they don't get together anymore. Those pages were designed by Andrea.
