Flowers and Nephews

Last week, Josh had to work out of town all week. Usually, when he does, he doesn't get home until after nightfall on Friday night. But this time, he surprised me. Right as I was walking out the door to go to an appointment, he pulled into the driveway. I was running a minute late, so I told him I would be back in an hour. When I got home, I was greeted by these beautiful flowers and sweet card. 

The other great part was he was home in time to help me babysit. I spent my Friday night with these three cuties. We had a Wii party while their parents went to graduation. There was some tears, some "winners dances" and lots of laughs and grins. It was a perfect way to spend a Friday night. 

More T-Ball & Baseball Pictures

I found more t-ball and baseball pictures on my camera and had to share them. I had so much fun watching both boys play and can't wait for next year. 

May Craft Group

The last craft group I went to was so much fun, I decided to do it again this month. The host will be taking the next few months off for her upcoming baby, so this month, we did 4th of July crafts. I even convinced my mom to join me this time. I decided to make the flag and stars and she did just the stars. It was a blast!

 I can't wait for July so I can display them in my home. 

I did decide to hang my flag on the door for Memorial Weekend. 

I had so much fun and can't wait until craft night starts up again. 

Home Improvement Project: Painting

When we first saw our home, we fell in love. With just about everything...except one color that was on several walls. Some would call it orange, others yellow. I dubbed it the ugly, burnt mustard yellow. 

BEFORE:

 The problem was, the one thing I hated more than it was painting. So we decided to live with it for the time being. I even had a friend offer to paint it for me, but it would mean waiting until her life calmed down while their own home was for sale. Which was fine.

Until, one day, I saw a relative of Josh's post on Facebook they were looking to make some extra money. I asked if they painted. By the time Josh got home from work (an hour later), it was all arranged. I just needed to buy the supplies. 

I had also lucked out on some extra money that made it all possible. I wanted to do something meaningful with it and putting it into the home seemed like the perfect solution. The "ugly yellow" was on one wall in the living room, one wall in the half bath and then entire master bedroom.

 We actually ended up painting three walls in the living room. I had a hard time matching the cream color that the ugly yellow wall touched, so we decided to just paint over all but the green walls, so they would all match. 

 I didn't have a before picture of the the half bath, but here is the after. I actually bought a tan paint for it, but in the end, I decided to use the blue that was left over from our bedroom.  

BEFORE:

I couldn't make my mind up on our bedroom. I almost went with just the cream color all the way around, but in the end, decided to do an accent wall in blue. We both love how it turned out. 

AFTER:

The one thing we have noticed it how much brighter the room is! I ordered the exact same black out curtains I had before. The curtain itself does a great job of keeping out the light. But the light sneaks in the top and lights up the entire room. 

That was supposed to be all we were going to do, but in the end, I decided to paint the upstairs bathroom also. The color didn't bother me, but the previous owner had left some huge spackle holes and I wanted them covered up. 

I'm still looking for new bathroom decor, but haven't found anything I like yet. 

We have loved our home even more since covering up the "ugly yellow" walls. I'm so glad I decided to do it and that Josh was so wonderful to let me. I will admit, one of the reasons I put off home ownership for so long was because I was worried about home repairs. But now I've learned, I could be addicted to home improvement. Since the painting was finished, I have added several things to my "wish" list. Some are small and won't be hard to tackle, but others will be more expensive. 

I also found a pretty flower pot for our porch for the summer. 

5K's

A few weeks ago, Josh ran his first 5K of the year. It was the Neon Night run at the golf course in Vernal. We were delighted to see his sister there too. 

Then, the very next morning, they both ran the Hospital's Run for U 5K. I thought about running that one with them, but I am a little out of shape. 

Josh hasn't been able to train much, with his crazy work hours, but he managed to shave a minute off his run the next morning. 

Savannah's Day 2014

Lately, Josh has had some pretty crazy hours. He was either working in Moab or Wyoming, for a full week. Or even on the days he worked from Vernal, he was leaving at 6 AM and not getting home until 10 PM. So as Savannah's Day approached, I decided, instead of a gift, I just wanted a weekend away.

I did some searching online and decided it would be fun to go see a play and then spend a night at a bed & breakfast. I choose Ballet West Presents Cinderella at the Sandy Amphitheater. It was a little rainy, but fun. Josh had never been to a ballet before (and I have only been to one years ago when I was young), so it was a little different because there was no talking. But we both really enjoyed it. 

After that, we headed back to our room. I had found a cute bed & breakfast called the 1887 Hansen Home in Sandy. It was located in the historic part of Sandy, so it was a nice quite area. The house was charming and I loved our room, The American Cowboy Room. We were the only couple there that weekend, which was also nice.

We were able to visit with the owner the next morning and learn the history of the place, which was pretty cool. We told her how much we loved our room and she said its usually the least liked. I can't see why. You can see the love her husband put into that room when they were building it. The outhouse around the toilet was perfect! I can see how other people would prefer the more Victorian themed rooms, but for us, this room was perfect. 

Because we were out of town, we didn't see our own mom's, but we did call and wish them a Happy Mother's Day. I made some more scrapbook pages for my mom. I had a harder time figuring out Josh's mom, until I saw this cute idea on Pinterest of a bright gift basket of various yellow items. I had so much fun putting it together. In the end, I couldn't find a yellow basket, but I decided the orange matched it perfectly. 

I love that Josh picked the card out himself. On Sunday, before we headed home, I wanted to stop at Victoria's Secret and get a few new bras. Josh doesn't like to go into stores with me, so he just walks around the mall until I call and tell him I'm finished. During one of his laps, he decided to stop at the Hallmark card and pick out a card for his mom and another for myself. 

I always love getting cards from him. I know he spends a lot of time trying to find the perfect one. 

This is actually the 3rd year we've been out of town on Mother's Day. I have found it makes it much easier to deal with being a childless couple, so its probably a tradition that will continue each year. 

T-ball & Baseball

This year, both of Melanie's boys kept me busy for baseball season. Tyler had his first year of t-ball and Preston moved on to pitching machine baseball. I wasn't able to make it to every game, but at least to several of them. It kept me busy because Preston's games were on Monday & Wednesday and Tyler's games were on Tuesday and Thursday. It was also fun because I could hang with one of the nephews while the other one played. That made it even more entertaining.

I've only taken Sage to two games with me. She is so easily excitable that it can be a chore. At the first game, she set still for literally 2 seconds. She spent the rest of the time watching people walk by.

The 2nd time I took her, she did a little better, for the first half. I was hungry so I decided to get a corn dog. And it would have been fine except the stick inside is sharp and long. I took a bite, and then pushed the stick down a little. Then I took a 2nd bite. But when I went to push the stick down more, Sage dove in and just took it off the stick completely. After that, she would not sit still; I think she was looking for more food.
